The AKB Memorial Hospital was established in the memory of the Late Azena Kitimbo Balunywa in
recognition of her services to women in the community.
It is a community-based hospital being built in phases starting with six-bed maternity and
outpatient section. The maternity section is now complete and requires furnishing and
equipment. The hospital has been built with funds raised from mainly donations from friends and
contributions from family members. It is registered as a non-profit organization. It will operate on
cost recovery basis as a community hospital
